Meet the Maker - Third Wind Woodworks

It would not be nice of me to call this week’s maker a fibber, stretcher of the truth when Nick Ryan of Third Wind Woodworks told me he had only been creating items for only a year! Then he had the audacity to tell me that he was self taught! It was hard for me to believe because since meeting him not so long ago, I had watched his items on Facebook and Instagram and fell in love with the clean lines and sturdy builds I had seen there.
Nick had started woodworking by finding those “fix-up” items which he quickly refinished and then sold. The pivotal moment came when he was sanding a coffee table and sanded through the veneer and found MDF beneath. Nick got in hot water with the Missus when he threw the table away. He promised to make her another to replace the inferior quality one and when he did, that started his journey into woodworking! Nick’s favorite tool is the new one he finds at a bargain. He enjoys the simplicity of dowel joinery but has “MacGuyver’d” pocket hole joinery without using a Kreg Jig. His personal dining table is made of white ash and he made two matching benches. A recent client was thrilled with her table and the table with the Christmas carolers can be seen at Linen and Rust Home Furnishings in Jacksonville, Florida. Nick build the Barn Door Console and is excited about the one he is designing now. It will have live edge components! Nick can be found at the following links and not pictured here is a video of his epoxy pour, go check it out!
